Engine Types and Trims
The 2019 Chevrolet Blazer will be available in four trims, technically five. They go by the names - L, Cloth/Leather, RS, and Premier. The second trim name depends on the interior option selected. The standard engine found under the hood of the base trim, L, and the next trim in line is an ECOTEC 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, optimized with variable valve timing (VVT) and gasoline direct injection (GDI) for improved performance. It has not yet been rated for horsepower or torque on the new Blazer SUV. Available on the Blazer Cloth/Leather trims, and found as the standard engine for the Blazer RS and Premier trims is the 3.6-liter V6 engine, also optimized by VVT and GDI.
Engineering and Towing Capacity
Along with VVT and GDI, both engines are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. With intelligent stop/start technology also implemented into both engine designs, the 2019 Chevy Blazer is expected to have great fuel economy (not yet rated by EPA). If looking for towing power, consumers will want to go with the 3.6-liter V6 engine option and opt-in for an available heavy-duty towing package that offers the Blazer a maximum towing capacity of up to 4,500 lbs.
Exterior Features
Across the lineup, the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer has been given a strong presence with a wide stance, tight body, and athletic attitude that will appeal to high-performance drivers as well as those looking for a compact SUV for cargo and passenger space. Varied grille designs throughout the lineup give a strong statement with LED daytime running lamps, LED taillamps that span across the liftgate, available intellibeam automatic headlamps, and dual exhaust outlets. Several trims also get a small change to separate them from the lineup.
If looking for the more aggressive SUV, then consumers will find interest in the Blazer RS trim, sporting a more extreme look with black wheels and a unique black hexagonal grille design with Black bowtie and RS badging. The Blazer Premier goes a little further with chrome accents inside and out. Both of these trims ride on 20-inch wheels as the default, but drivers can upgrade for 21-inch wheels to stand apart from other SUVS on the road. Also available on select trims is a hands-free power liftgate that opens with a swing of the foot under the chassis, and an available hitch guidance feature aid that helps drivers hitch setup and alignment.
Interior Features
The interior of the new 2019 Chevrolet Blazer is as fascinating as the exterior, designed with soft-touch materials and intuitive driver controls, there is as much aesthetic appeal as there is convenience. Blazer L of course comes with cloth upholstery (Jet Black), as does the Cloth version of the next trim up. Otherwise, the Leather version of the second-tier Blazer trim can come with leather-appointed seating surfaces in Jet Black or Dark/Light Galvanized colors. The Blazer RS has leather upholstery in Jet Black with red accents, and the Blazer Premier comes with leather upholstery in Jet Black with red accents or a combination of Jet Black and Maple Sugar. Select trims may also come with a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Many convenient options pop-up throughout the lineup, such as automatic heated and ventilated front seats that respond to the automatic climate control system, keyless entry, a backseat reminder, and various storage and seating options. The second row can be moved back for extra leg room or forward for more cargo space, and can lean back or fold flat for larger cargo. There’s also an underfloor cargo storage area, an electronic-locking glove box, and a Chevrolet-First cargo management system that uses a rail system and adjustable cargo fence with push hooks to segment the cargo area and keep items from moving while the vehicle is in motion. Oh, and there’s a dual-pane panoramic sunroof that spans across both rows, available on select trims.
Entertainment
For the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer, Chevrolet is spicing things up with an advanced, customizable infotainment system, called Chevrolet Infotainment 3, displayed on a high-resolution digital 8-inch touchscreen (with GPS navigation on the RS and Premier). An 8-inch reconfigurable instrument cluster will also be available with the Driver information center on the Blazer RS and Premier trims. No word on the sound system options yet, but Chevrolet is keeping people connected with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot that lets seven consumers connect at once for streaming content, music, entertainment, and more. The dreaded part about constant Wi-Fi is how quickly it drains smartphone battery - that’s why the Blazer offers up to six UBS ports and wireless charging, so consumers can keep their devices charged and stay connected on the go.
