Camp Jeep and Ram Truck Test Tracks Return to the 2022 Chicago Auto Show

Written By, Jordan R

At NowCar, we love to talk about automotive technology. If the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show was a look at the near future, then we can’t wait. The metaverse was a pretty cool thing – NFTs, not so much. Just like all crypto, the bubble is going to burst eventually. You can’t beat REAL money. But enough about that, because aside from tech, we also love to check out the latest auto show and share what we find. Next week, we’re going to a larger piece covering what we saw at the 2022 Chicago Auto Show, but we’re writing a little teaser of what consumers and attendees can look forward to this week.

There are two huge things going on at the 2022 Chicago Auto Show that are a must-see! The first is the popular Camp Jeep® indoor test track, returning for the 18th year. Setting up shop since 2005, Jeep has erected a space for Jeepers and fans alike to experience the true off-road power of the most popular Jeep vehicles. More than 532,000 people have taken test rides since Camp Jeep started, and this year is no different. In fact, Jeep is going beyond this year, taking its once 18-foot tall mountain and making it bigger. Now 28-feet tall with a with 45-degree approach and departure angles, this is just one of many great things that will show up in the 28,000-square-foot exhibit.

In addition to the large fake mountain, courses that attendees will get to experience are a ground clearance stair climber; maneuverability moguls; an extreme break-over; a Jeep tunnel pass-through; the all-new 28-foot mountain; an off-camber; and a 30-degree banked wedge. All of these are designed to test the off-road capabilities of the Jeep, from transferring torque to wheels with traction when on uneven terrain to the torque needed to rock crawl and climb steep hills. Of course, attendees won’t be able to get behind the wheel for this run. Instead, experienced drivers will be taking attendees through the course. The vehicles there for a free ride include the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, Wrangler 4xe, Wrangler 392, Gladiator Rubicon, Gladiator Mojave, Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, Grand Cherokee Overland and Summit Reserve, Cherokee Trailhawk and Compass Trailhawk.

Also showing up at the 2022 Chicago Auto Show will be the Ram Truck Territory test track. Another chance for attendees to get a free ride in one of America’s leading pickup trucks, the test track brings in 1500 light-duty and 2500/3500 heavy-duty trucks. Like Camp Jeep, attendees will get to experience the capabilities of Ram pickup trucks when climbing the iconic Ram Mountain, a 13-foot high, 30-foot long course element with 30-degree approach and departure angles. Who says pickup trucks can’t go off-road? The featured Ram vehicles navigating the course are the 1500 Laramie, 1500 Limited, 1500 Rebel, 2500 75th Anniversary Power Wagon, 2500 Limited and 3500 Limited 6.7L Cummins High-Output.

For anyone who would like to see us there, the 2022 Chicago Auto Show will be going on from Feb. 12-21 at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, IL. Maybe you can even pop up on NowCar social media with all the crazy events going on.
