Chevrolet partnered with Nissan Motor Co. and introduced the Chevrolet City Express in 2014. The small van segment, which doesn’t have a large amount of competition, had new company with the Chevy City Express. However, Chevy’s venture with the City Express small van was short lived. Chevy announced that the last order they placed for the vehicle was given back in September 2017 with no renewal scheduled and no upcoming plans to continue this vehicle lineup. The last City Express vehicles left Nissan’s assembly plant in Cuernavaca, Mexico early 2018. After the City Express had not exceeded expectations and several years of declining sales, the writing was on the wall. Let’s take one final look at this small van, the Chevy product that wasn’t quite the hit it was expected to become.
Capabilities of the Chevy City Express
The 2018 Chevy City Express is a spacious small van, capable of helping businesses to own a reliable ride with a remarkable 122.7 cubic-feet of cargo space. Not only spacious, the City Express has strong gas mileage. The 2018 Chevrolet City Express provides a respectable 24 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway. The horsepower provided by the City Express hits 131 horsepower and gets 139 lb-ft of torque. The 2018 Chevy City Express helps drivers hold 1,500 pounds of maximum payload. Despite these perks, the Chevy City Express has sold in its entirety less than 30,000 vehicles. This is the reason why, unfortunately, the 2018 model will be the last one produced. The Chevy City Express is not alone in not being renewed; the small van segment will also not have the GMC Savana any longer as well. Small vans have gone down in popularity in recent years. Nissan currently controls nearly 25 percent of the U.S. compact van segment, but there was a 9.5 percent drop off from 2017 and 7.1 plus in 2018.
While there won’t be a 2019 Chevrolet Express, there are still 2018 City Express small vans available. There ares no issues with this vehicle and it serves as a quality choice for those that need a work station they can use for their business. The City Express has a body-on-frame design and handles any hauling job easier than ever before in its history. We’re proud at NowCar to sell this vehicle and look forward to helping customers own one.
