Off-road automaker Jeep® definitely comes to mind, allowing consumers to change just about anything, from deleting doors to installing a power-sliding soft top. Ram Truck is another name, offering all kinds of configurations for its trucks and cargo vans with upfit. The Kia Corp is also known for this, first with LED ambient lighting, and now the new EV3 that gives consumers access to downloadable apps to completely customize the look of their interior cabin. A new challenger is entering the fray, and they’re giving consumers the chance to customize their vehicles from the ground up.
Sounds a lot like the Dodge Jailbreak models, no? Brought back around the same time as Dodge announced its first wave of “Last Call” models, Dodge gave consumers the chance to fully customize their Dodge vehicle, as long as it was a Dodge Charger or Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody model starting as the base. If they did that, consumers could choose plenty of personalization options not available in the past from over 20 categories. It’s truly a “If you build it, they will come” kind of deal.
Vehicles that consumers can fully customize are typically called “bespoke vehicles”. Known for their striking color combinations, artisanal details, and consumer personalization, Ineos Automotive is taking its own approach with the launch of a program called Arcane Works. We like to hear about new startups trying something new in the auto industry. Just look at the success of Rivian in the electric vehicle market, wowing the world with its RT1 electric pickup truck. Ineos Automotive already has a bespoke vehicle in the works, a rugged Grenadier SUV, and it will allow consumers to personalize their Grenadier with customized detailing and bespoke materials.
Ineos Automotive goes even further than aftermarket parts or customized factory-built models. The Arcane Works program actually puts consumers in touch with craftsmen to choose from various finishings and color match technologies to add to their Grenadier SUV. Ineos Automotive also states that each run of vehicles from Arcane Works will carry a specifically tailored name, unique features and introduce new technologies. So, will consumers get a chance to customize each vehicle, or is this more of a “you asked and we listened” deal for the Grenadier SUV?
"We know this is something our customers have been looking for and working in small batches means we can give them a genuinely custom-made experience," - George Ratcliffe, Ineos Automotive's commercial director, said in a statement
We should know more this summer. Ineos Automotive plans to reveal the initial Arcane Works vehicle during the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England in July 2024. The Grenadier bespoke model will be a sight to see, but the nameplate has been around since 2023. U.S. deliveries for the Grenadier first began in late 2023, and a Grenadier Quartermaster pickup is set to arrive in the U.S. by the end of 2024. Bespoke vehicles are the new plan for Ineos Automotive, known as a lucrative business for some of the industry's most exclusive luxury brands, such as Bentley and Rolls-Royce.
