A new time and age has arrived for one of the leading brands of Stellantis. Jeep has put together phenomenal use of the freshest platform set to debut with the arrival of the Jeep Wagoneer S, among other early adopters of the latest platform made for new Jeep rides. We expect those vehicles to  hold a special place for both excitement for drivers that want to still have the ability to hold their own any nearly any terrain; as a Jeep should be. The massive automaker has built their vehicles to be front-wheel, four-wheel or all-wheel drive. 

This accessibility is great for engineers and designers that can now settle on differences among wheelbase, length, width, height and ground clearance with less work required. Suspension modules and powertrain cradles can be moved the vehicles' drive, handling and comfort, and other differences to promote better performance. The propulsion system will have the advantages of being able to gain over-the-air software updates and this is expected to be ensured for the vehicle's lifespan, according to Jeep and Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep.

"If you want a curve-hugging, track-ready performance vehicle, a smooth-riding luxury car or a rock-clearing off roader. We've addressed these needs within the platform." Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis said.

Perks of the New STLA Platform

The STLA platform includes a maximum ground clearance of 11.3 inches, and a maximum tire diameter of 32.6 inches. Vehicles can stretch 15 feet, 7.6 inches to 16 feet, 9.8 inches in length and from 6 feet, 2.7 inches to 6 feet, 7.9 inches in width. Underpinning a number of those models and eight in total through 2026 will be the STLA (pronounced "stella") Large platform. Made in mind for BEVs, the platform also can include hybrid and internal combustion engine powertrains. This move will support full-size vehicles in the D and E segments, including cars, crossovers and SUVs. Typically, this would require two to three platforms for all of the applications STLA Large will handle going ahead this year and through the next decade or longer. Jeep is also ready after adding proper infrastructure for charging their EVs easier going into the mid-way point of this decade nationwide. 

"In terms of R&D and (capital expenditures), the efficiency of this platform to cover a significant part of foreign brands, footprint and model footprint is going to be employed, which means that with one platform you are going to be distributing the cost of one platform. ... Depreciation per unit of that platform is going to be much smaller than in previous cases” said Marc Issner, global engineering head of the platform.
