Recently, Kelly Blue Book (KBB) concluded its 5-Year Cost to Own Award list. This list focuses on the value of a vehicle, how well that value holds up, and how much it costs to own the car versus leasing it, and whether or not it will be a worthwhile investment when it comes time to resell it. Not many consumers think about it, but after the down payment and all the fees that come with a vehicle purchase, there’s also the monthly payments, expected fuel costs, finance and insurance fees, maintenance and repair costs, and depreciation over time. So, how can a consumer know that the vehicle they’re purchasing will still be worth it in three years? Or five, for that matter?

Yes, the new 2020 Chrysler Voyager minivan earned its 5-Year Cost to Own Award in the Minivan category in its first year of eligibility. The 2020 Jeep Wrangler earned a 5-Year Cost to Own Award for the sixth year-in-a-row, and another award in the Off-Road SUV category for the second year. Another FCA vehicle, the Fiat 124 Spider, won the sports car segment, known for its classic Italian styling and bringing back a beauty from 50 years ago to drag race in modern days.

The 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander also won a KBB 5-Year Cost to Own Award, for the second consecutive year, actually. Yes, this isn’t the first time that the Mitsubishi Outlander came out on top. With many high-value three-row SUVs fighting for customers' attention in the market today, getting this kind of recognition from such a trusted source of automobile information is truly a huge win for the automaker. Plus, with all Mitsubishi Motors vehicles backed by one of the best warranties in the industry, consumers can ensure that their SUV will keep its original value for years to come.

We also saw that the Chevrolet Tahoe won a KBB 5-Year Cost to Own Award for the Full-size SUV/Crossover category. It may have some years on it, and with the Blazer SUV out, Chevy has some fierce competition amongst its own lineup, but the Tahoe is still a good and true SUV consumers can trust. For that, it earned itself an award for its value now and years later.
