Volkswagen is going to add a new small SUV crossover that shows off its innovation. The upcoming 2022 Volkswagen SUV might be called Tarek or Taos. The latest crossover Volkswagen is going to be the smallest one in the 2022 Volkswagen catalog. Crossovers and SUVs have been very popular for the Volkswagen brand. The expectation for the vehicle is a powerful turbocharged 1.4-Liter four-cylinder engine that gets 147 horsepower. The Volkswagen Jetta currently carries an available six-speed manual transmission and a report has said the Tarek/Taos will bring an eight-speed automatic transmission. This will allow owners to have direct power to the crossover's front wheels or all four wheels through an optional all-wheel-drive setup. 

What Owners Will Find Inside the Volkswagen Tarek/Taos

A standard 6.5-inch touchscreen will be added for its base infotainment system, but an optional 8-inch touchscreen will be available. A large 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster will be added for customers. With high-tech features and high-level safety enhancements, owners are going to feel safe as well as comfortable in this upcoming SUV product. The safety features will include automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights, and a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert.

The vehicle will offer decent spacing despite being a compact crossover. About 37.6 cubic feet of space is going to be present for owners. Beyond the second-row seating, as much as 73.5 cubic feet of space. A report lists the vehicle as 175.3 inches long as well, which this length might be 10 inches shorter for the U.S. version offered by Volkswagen.

Where and When the Production Will Begin

The production will be hosted in Puebla, Mexico at the Volkswagen Mexico plant. This vehicle will be made to compete with the Kia Seltos, Jeep Compass, and Nissan Rogue Sport. There is some speculation about what the final name will be since Volkswagen has filed for two patents with the United States Trademark and Patent Office. The filing took place in February and a Volkswagen spokesperson has said the vehicle will be ready to go on sale in the summer of 2021. The price range should be around $26,000 MSRP.
