Moving forward full-speed ahead towards a market where battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) become the norm, everyone had a new business strategy to tackle the change. The fourth largest automaker in the world, Stellantis announced “Dare Forward”, a strategy to launch 75 BEVs across the world, with 25 of those coming to North America. The first of many, coming out in 2023 is the first-ever Ram ProMaster electric van (EV). Having already entered into a long-term agreement with Amazon, Ram Truck has another large customer putting in an order for thousands of Ram ProMaster EVs – Merchant Fleet.
"We take great pride in our partnership with Stellantis, which plays a crucial role in our strategy to create an innovative EV ecosystem for our clients…This collaboration allows us to provide our clients with exclusive access to EVs and a level of flexibility they simply can't get anywhere else." - = Brad Burgess, senior VP of fleet sales and strategic solutions at Merchants Fleet

The agreement between Merchant Fleet and Amazon follows the previous announcement between Amazon and Stellantis. Known as the first commercial customer for the new Ram ProMaster EV, Amazon put in thousands of orders, aiming to use ProMaster EVs on the road every year as a part of its delivery service. Building its delivery van fleet for Amazon Prime, Amazon has also backed EV startup Rivian and investing in the startup for delivery vehicles. Already planning to continue its expansion, Ram will have additional ProMaster EV commercial/fleet customer announcements in the coming months.
Amazon working with Stellantis may sound new, but it’s been going on for years now. With Amazon FireTV streaming services becoming available in several automotive brands under the Stellantis umbrella, the most recent features were viewed in the new STLA SmartCockpit concept at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The STLA SmartCockpit brings luxury and autonomy to the driver and passengers, starting with a 37.2-inch sculpted black glass touchscreen to provide consumers and the vehicle with vehicle data and diagnostics, information about passengers and vehicle surroundings, and entertainment options. There’s also a new virtual assistant that will make higher levels of autonomy available.
Run by the STLA Brain, a fully Over-the-Air (OTA) capable platform, consumers will have access to the newest applications immediately. This means increased autonomy, consumer-tailored features, and other capabilities. Most of these applications are 100-percent powered by Amazon.
