Stellantis and Free2moe Charge Offers New BEV Charging Solutions

Stellantis Offers Consumers New BEV Charging Solutions with Free2move Charge

Written By, Jordan R

Years ago, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA; now Stellantis) created a new subsidiary, Free2move. Focused on providing a source of mobility for all types of consumers, Free2move has expanded its reach towards electric mobility now that the auto market is becoming more electrified with plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). Stellantis announced Dare Forward 2030, a business plan for the rest of the decade (2030), and so has every other major automaker and automobile group in the industry. With consumers still wary about going electric with the lack of BEV charging stations available, it’s a big risk, but many automakers are looking for ways to give consumers peace of mind. The latest solution comes from Stellantis and Free2Move Charge with a Home and Go Package.

”As we introduce our all-electric vehicles this year in the U.S., we want to ensure that our customers easily understand the charging options available to them before or upon purchase…Simply stated, included in the purchase of a Stellantis battery-electric vehicle is the ability choose a Free2move Level 2 charging unit or charging credits with a value of $600 to use at charging stations across the country, which are easily identifiable through the app.” - Mathilde Lheureux, head of energy and charge business unit

Changing city infrastructure to install more EV charging stations is growing in popularity. Back in 2019, VW and General Motors announced a joint venture with Electrify America to build more BEV charging stations across the nation. Jeep also worked with Electrify America to install Jeep 4xe charging stations at select trails in California and Utah. Kia also entered into a joint venture with Electrify America to offer 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of complimentary EV charging/energy to new Kia EV6 owners. In November 2021, the House passed a large U.S. infrastructure package, an investment of $7.5 billion to help build a network of electric vehicle charging stations across the country. All of this eventually sparked IONNA, the joint venture between BMW Group, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Group, Stellantis NV, and Toyota to build a nationwide BEV charging network.

Through Free2Move Charge, Stellantis is offering new BEV owners two new solutions for easily finding where to charge up nearby. The first solution is the Home Package, offering new Stellantis BEV consumers the installation of a Level 2 charging unit. All a consumer needs to do is easy-to-use installation portal on the Free2Move Charge website and select the Home Package option, answer some questions about the home or location for the charging station, and they’ll get a quote about the cost of installation. Then, schedule an appointment, and the preferred installer will take care of the necessary permits to get the owners connected and configured.

The second solution is the Go Package. For consumers who don’t have the option of getting a Level 2 charging unit installed, they can select charging credits ($600) as part of their BEV purchase that can be used at public charging stations (DC and Level 2 chargers) across the country - more than 75,000 charging networks. With the Free2move Charge app that can be downloaded via Apple and Google app stores, consumers will also be able to find the charging stations nearby, the best times to charge, and more.

Automakers are doing everything they can to help consumers make the switch to PHEVs and BEVs. Are you ready to go green? Buy a new BEV when you shop for a car online with NowCar.
