The folks at Ford have recently re-introduced their famed Ford Bronco, but perhaps they did so too soon. As nice as the newly resurfaced Bronco looks, there have been some issues with the tires they have added. The Goodyear tires that Ford chose were actually the ones made for the Jeep Wrangler. The actual title of the tires is "Goodyear Wrangler" tires, thus creating a problem for the marketing aspect of the special off-road ready tires Ford chose.
What Was Ford Thinking?
A reputable car-enthusiast website, Motor 1, spoke to Ford to find out more details regarding the iconic fact about the tires. Ford was actually entirely aware that they had made the choice of knowing full-well what the reaction might entail. The manufacturer for Ford parts, Blue Oval Industries, actually put out a statement regarding the name of the tires. They requested to have the name moved off the tire entirely, but that would be nearly impossible or too costly for Ford to do so. When speaking about the Wrangler tires, this is the remarks made by Blue Oval.
"[The Wrangler name] will be removed from the Goodyear's sidewall on the onboard side. Bronco customers will not see it unless their tires are off the vehicle and in the inboard side is visible." According to a Blue Oval spokesperson.
The Wrangler Name On Nearly Every Ford Bronco
While the Goodyear Wrangler name is not going to be present on every trim for the Ford Bronco, its still worth noting how silly the idea was to make this choice for the Ford brand. Ford even went to great lengths to avoid the public from finding out about the tires. Ford's official Bronco media photos have different tires than the ones that will be added to all 30-inch tires.
On the other side, Jeep and its parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) must find it amusing. The brand responsible for making the iconic Wrangler, they now will have its nameplate on all four tires of their closest rivals' latest mid-size SUV; the same vehicle segment of the Wrangler. Jeep has the first laugh regarding the start to this re-established battle between both brands. Jeep won the last time these vehicles went head-to-head and the truth is, the Wrangler won as the Bronco hasn't been seen since the 1990s.
