Volkswagen is going to introduce a new small SUV that will be known as the Taos. The growth of the Volkswagen brand will include the Taos joining the ranks of its U.S. lineup slotted just under the Tiguan compact crossover. For other markets, the Volkswagen brand will call the new SUV the Tarek or Tharu. The Tiguan will be 10 inches longer than the Taos. While Volkswagen has not revealed what it will look like, aside from cryptic images that hide its appearance, we're still awaiting its reveal. We've received reports the Taos should look quite similar to the Volkswagen Tiguan. We'll break down the details we've learned.

All the Perks of the Upcoming Taos

The appearance of the vehicle will include two thin LED lights that connect to the vehicle's headlights. The build will be similar to the Jeep Compass or the Subaru Crosstrek for comparison purposes. Underneath the hood of the Taos, the expectation is the Taos will offer two powertrains including a turbocharged option. The 1.4-Liter turbocharged engine that offers 148 horsepower or a 2.0-Liter inline-four engine that hits 184 horsepower will be added. The details should come out sometime before the debut in October 2020. The standard Taos will carry front-wheel-drive with the expectation of offering VW's 4Motion all-wheel-drive and offer a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Curious buyers won't have to wait too long to find out all the options. 

When to Expect the Taos

Volkswagen is expected to launch the official debut on October 13th, 2020. The vehicle might be listed as a 2022 model, but most likely will be a 2021 model year vehicle. The pricing has not been revealed, but VW should put the cost around the $20,000 MSRP mark, not going much higher than the mid-20's in terms of cost.
